Amazon Salon lets customers test new hair colors using AR

Amazon have announced the opening of its first-ever Amazon Salon. This one-of-a-kind hair and styling center is located in Spitalfields, East London. It will use the latest in augmented reality technology to offer customers, what they say, a next-generation hair-care experience.

The first of its kind from Amazon, the 1500 square foot establishment will boast two floors of hair care and styling services. It will be staffed by hairdressers from an independent London salon, Neville Hair & Beauty.

Amazon will install augmented-reality mirrors, which will show clients a variety of different colours and styles to choose from. Clients will be able to see what a particular color or style might look like on themselves in real-time, before actually committing to the treatment.

Inside the venue, waiting clients will also have magazines loaded onto tablets, to browse ahead of time. Customers will also then be able to scan QR codes for hair products on the tablet and buy them through Amazons website.

John Boumphrey, the UK Manager for Amazon said “We have designed this salon for customers to come and experience some of the best technology, hair care products and stylists in the industry”, adding “We want this unique venue to bring us one step closer to customers, and it will be a place where we can collaborate with the industry and test new technologies.”

Amazon staff will be the first to test out the new salon, with it opening up to the public “in the coming weeks”. Currently a one off for Amazon, no other plans for additional Amazon Salons are currently in the works.
